Interlochen Residency

Robert W. Boardman’s guest conducting work with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra reflects his deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of classical musicians at one of the nation’s premier pre-professional arts institutions. At Interlochen, he has led major orchestral programs that blend traditional symphonic repertoire with bold, contemporary works—challenging and inspiring young performers at the highest level. In October 2023, he conducted a spirited concert featuring Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare and Theme, and Arthur Foote’s Air and Gavotte. He returned in April 2024 to lead the world premiere of Mary D. Watkins’ The People's Awakening, a co-commission by Interlochen and The Juilliard School, paired with Rimsky-Korsakov’s evocative Scheherazade. His collaborations at Interlochen demonstrate a rare ability to balance tradition and innovation—offering students not only technical rigor but also a powerful artistic vision grounded in inclusivity, storytelling, and global awareness.
